In a recent development on Twitter, Elon Musk has become the most-followed person on the social media platform, dethroning former President Barack Obama. As of now, Musk has 133,068,709 followers, whereas Obama has 133,042,819 followers on their respective profiles.
This achievement can be attributed to Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, which has helped him rapidly increase his follower count. He had hit 100 million followers in June last year and has continued to gain more followers since then.
Apart from posting random and sometimes controversial memes, Musk also uses his Twitter account to communicate important changes coming to the platform. He even took the opinion of his followers on allowing Donald Trump back onto the platform and whether he should step down as CEO of Twitter.
In contrast, Obama primarily uses his account for professional purposes, such as promoting a cause or highlighting his work as the former president of the United States. Similarly, Justin Bieber and Katy Perry, occupying the third and fourth most-followed positions, respectively, also use their accounts for professional purposes.
It will be interesting to see how Musk uses his position as the most-followed person on Twitter and how he continues to engage with his followers on the platform.
