Back in 2019, Instagram announced that they would start testing hiding Like counts for users. The test was going on amid COVID-19. However, Instagram hasn’t made this update official for all users. Today, plenty of Instagram users got this update where they lost Like counts in their feed. There wasn’t any official announcement for this test; however, users have reported this several times.

Later, Instagram clarified in a tweet that they have been testing a new experience to hide likes on the feed posts.

“We unintentionally added more people to the test today.”

They unintentionally added more people to the test, and the bug caused this issue. The company clarified that they are not rolling this out soon; besides, the team is working on a fix and will restore the like counts as soon as possible.

We've been testing a new experience to hide likes on Feed posts. We unintentionally added more people to the test today, which was a bug — we’re fixing this issue and restoring like counts to those people as soon as possible.
